It’s my mom’s fault, really.

Well, I can’t give her total blame. But she surely instigated it by sending me an email with a video. Hit me up with a comment and an email if you want a copy.

Earlier this evening, I went to Fred Meyers to exchange some clothes for Amira. They were holding the outfit upstairs and when I got up there, a woman was at the cashier area with a shopping cart full of miscellaneous clearance items and was talking to the cashier and someone on the phone about whether or not to purchase some bedspread set. She then called about four other people, then decided not to buy the bedspread set. This took about 10 minutes.

As she was making one of her calls and not talking with the cashier, I started to ask if the cashier could help me get the outfit they were holding. I didn’t need her to ring it up, just give it to me so I could take it to customer service. The woman on the phone stopped her conversation, interrupted me, and said, “She’s helping me now.”

I was irritated, but stepped back and let her finish, taking another five minutes or so, as the woman decided there were several items for which she didn’t want to pay the clearance price.

After she paid, she walked toward the elevator. I asked the cashier if she could get, or direct me to, the outfit in question. As she started to answer, the annoying woman came back to complain about the charge for something she bought.

I interrupted her. “So do I look like an asshole?”

“What?” she responded, stupidly.

“Do my daughter and I look like assholes? And this guy behind me? Do we all look like assholes?”

Of course she said no.

“Well, you are treating us like assholes. Since you were adamant that this woman couldn’t help you while you were on the phone, I’m going to have to ask you to stop treating us like assholes and go wait behind this guy”, indicating the guy behind me, “if you need more help.”

She was flabbergasted. As I finished, another woman got in the line. “I’m after him,” she said, as if daring the woman to say anything.

The annoying woman turned and walked off. And I didn’t feel like an asshole.
